As I sat in the sanctuary of a church that means so much to me and helped to establish and support my faith and walk w/ Christ, a flood of memories flash through my mind. After all, I started attending FBC Cville from the time I was old enough to stay in the nursery. It was here that I attended GA's and Acteens, Sunday School, Youth Ministry & Choir , volunteered each year w/ VBS & was a 9 year participant in Bible Drills. I remember those along the way that truly taught me Christian principles, morals, and values that have absolutely stuck w/ me through my 30 years of life......Denise Boxx, Aletha Simpson, Roseanne Easley, Ann Upchurch, & my mother just to name a few. Denise and Aletha taught me in youth and in those tough teenage years. Mrs. Roseanne and Mrs. Ann were there to teach me in Acteens, & mom was the one encouraging me to do Bible Drills each year. Now, I'm going to be completely honest here...there were some years in which I dreaded preparing, memorizing, and competing in Bible Drills on the local, associational, & state levels, but I have to say that those verses and key passages are still just as clear as day in my mind after almost 12 years of not being a member of a Bible Drill team. I can still quote scriptures, reference verses, & find my books of the Bible as fast as ever. For something that I wasn't too fond of doing, it sure has made a difference in my life and has stayed with me & for that, Mom, I am thankful ;)
I have sat under a few pastors in my time as a member here at FBC--Bro. Truman Scarborough, Bro. Tim Pearcy, & Bro. Daniel Hathorne. Bro. Truman baptized me at the age of 9 during our annual summer revival on June 28, 1991 (my parents 16th wedding anniversary nonetheless). Bro. Pearcy was here during my junior high years and Ginny and I were so excited that they had young children that we could babysit! Now, on Facebook, I see that their oldest (Riley) who was probably 3 or 4 at the time has graduated high school- now THAT will make you feel old. After Bro. Pearcy left as interim pastor came Bro. Daniel.....Bro. Daniel was pastor during my high school and college years and later married Tim and I in 2008. There just isn't enough I can say about this small town church. It, along w/ my loving, Christian and devoted parents, shaped me into who I am today. First Baptist C'ville was a huge part of my life and will always be my "home church" and a place I know that I can always walk in its doors and feel welcome. During this month of thankfulness, I am extremely thankful for this church and church family & this small town on the map that will always be home. :) (**SIDE NOTE: There were 10 of us trying to get ready for church Sunday morning at mama and daddy's house. Crazy how fast our small, immediate family of 4 has grown to 10! Good thing we live across the street from the church or we would've never been on time- ha**)
